Infograpic – Glossary of Online Marketing Terms
When I started marketing my own small business online, I was constantly looking for BASIC internet marketing tools that I could use to market my business on the internet for free.
As part of my mission to educate, equip and empower you to gain online visibility fast, (Marketing Message – 3 Step Formula), I want to share with you how to use Google to be found online consistently.
As a small business owner or service professional you can build more visibility on the internet with Google in order for your ideal customers/clients to find you easily!
HOW? I’m not talking about getting a first page listing on Google when some-one searches for your type of products or services. I am referring to how you can leverage Google for your online visibility.
3 Simple Steps
This can be done in 3 simple steps you can implement immediately:
1. Create a Google account. (if you have one already, move on to step 2)
a. Go to http://google.com/accounts
b. On the right, select ‘Don’t have a Google Account? Create an account now’
c. Note your Google Username and Password for future use
d. From there you will be able to take advantage of the dozens of sites Google owns: Gmail, YouTube, Feedburner, Google Reader, Picassa, etc
2. Create a Google profile which will give you the opportunity to showcase your business and links to your sites, along with photos and videos.
a. Go to www.google.com/profiles
b. Create a personal profile and complete the fields as you see fit about yourself
c. Add a photo of yourself (not your business logo)
d. Add links to all your sites – your website(s) and blog, your catalogue/products & services, a free report, flickr with photos of business events etc
e. Can set up us Public or Private
3. Set up your business profile on Google Places
a. Go to www.google.com/places where customers find you on Google Maps
b. Google Places is connected to Google profile and Google Maps
c. Add your business name, your business address and contact details
d. Add your website URL and a description
e. Select a category (5 options) applicable to your business
f. Select hours of operations
g. Select payment options to specify how customers pay at your business
h. Add photos and logos (up to 10 images)
i. Add up to 5 videos
j. Next to Dashboard, click on Coupons and Add coupons (discount offers etc)
Results from a Google search
When your customers/clients searches for your products/services together with a place name, for example:
“social media and internet marketing services Cape Town”
This is the result:
The result is at least three listings of local businesses who provide the services requested, with ..more results.. at the end. Please notice an interesting result at the bottom. A starred listing of my Social Media Starter Project Kit with a link to my website, Virtual Project Consulting. This is the result of having my own Google Profile with a link to my products and services!
Your Google local business listing results can be improved by adding video, as well as asking your customers/clients for a review about your products/services.
