As discussed in previous posts (Blogging Best Practice), any business who wants to be visible on the internet, needs a business blog. When I started blogging, I looked for strategies and principles that could be applied to my blog to make it successful. A successful blog attracts the ideal clients to your business, will build your credibility online and will position you as a thought leader in your industry. One key success factor for a successful blog, is to consider the content strategy that your business wants to follow.
10 Principles to Content Marketing
For content marketing to work, there are 10 basic principles that you need to apply:
1. Be clear about what business you’re in and communicate the key benefits to your customers. (tip- what is the main problem that your product/service will solve for your customers, let this be your lead).
2. Be clear about who you’re trying to attract – who is your target audience (tip- what is the profile of your ideal customer).
3. Be well-branded so that people are clear about who you are and will remember you. When a person needs a product/service that you offer, your business must be the first thing that comes to mind for that product/service.
4. Be easy to find on the Web; blog, social media … everywhere. (tip- stick to the same descriptive profile on your different social media tools).
5. Publish quality content that attracts the right kind of people to you.
6. Give generously of your knowledge in multiple forms and multi-media (tip: audios, tele-seminars, etc)
7. Have a welcoming personality and be responsive to readers. Always be there for your readers, prospects, customers – be helpful when you engage with them.
8. Build trust through consistency, frequency, reliability and responsiveness.
9. Make offers that are hard to pass up – be irresistable.
10. Make the sales process and customer service impeccable.
Content Strategy
It is good to have a content strategy, but remember it is never done. It can and should always be updated with tactics that work and new learnings that promise results. The results from your measurements, based on the metrics you implement, will also lead to adjustments in your content strategy to streamline it more.
I found that having a clear content strategy that can be applied to my blog and social media activities, keeps me much more focused and dedicated to my marketing strategies. By always achieving to share great, valuable content on your business blog, also keeps you sharp and mindful of what your readers/clients are looking for.
