Recently I attended a Webinar presented by Kim Dushinski about using mobile marketing to drive traffic to your website and build your list.
I realised again the importance of integrating mobile marketing with your online marketing plan. The reason why most people don’t do this yet, is because they don’t know where to start. This article will give you 3 simple steps to implement and get you started with mobile marketing so that you can leverage from your online visibility.
#1 Make sure your website is mobile friendly
You probably didn’t know that 73% of smartphone users access the mobile web daily. Yet 82% of local business websites are not optimized for mobile phones.
Action: Do this quick test. Do a search on your mobile phone for your own website and watch if it displays correctly on the small screen of your mobile device. If you have to scroll left and right or enlarge the view to read the text, then your website is not mobile friendly.
This can easily be fixed if your website is built with WordPress. There are numerous Plugins that you can use to make your website mobile friendly. One such plugin that is recommended is WPTouch plugin. It’s easy to install and it will make a difference immediately.
#2 Build an SMS list and engage with your audience
You may know that email open rates have dropped significantly, yet SMS open rates are a staggering 98%. SMS marketing is also an underutilized tool in mobile marketing, or some-times an overused tool. It depends how you look at it. Some businesses only do SMS marketing and think that they do enough in terms of mobile marketing. Yet, this is only a small component of the overall mobile marketing tools at your disposal. If you setup a short-code to use for a SMS campaign, but you stop using it when the campaign is over, it is really of little use. But when you utilize an SMS campaign with the intention of building a list of interested subscribers and you engage with your audience using value-filled messages, then you will benefit greatly from this aspect of mobile marketing.
For example, I am a confirmed subscriber to the SMS list of a local children clothing store. I receive SMS messages from time to time about special promotions or when a new season’s stock has arrived in store. This is useful and relevant to me and I can choose whether I want to make use of promotions and discounts. Therefore I stay a loyal customer, because of the regular contact through SMS marketing and I feel informed and in touch with what is going on at the store.
#3 Use QR Codes to build your list and drive traffic to your site
The use of QR codes is also an easy place to start with mobile marketing. Think of it as the brand stationary for mobile devices. What I mean by that is that you can use a QR code on any of your branding materials. When a prospect scans your QR code for more information, you send them to a mobile friendly website with a subscription form, a special offer, a free download or anything that will grow your list and drive more traffic to your site. The key here is to explain what information is provided with the QR code and to tell people what to do.
There are of course many more aspects to mobile marketing not covered here, but remember these 3 steps were only provided to help you get started.
If you are brave enough, you can implement the 3-step process above and integrate mobile marketing with your online marketing today, if you have not done so yet. However, if you want more information before you act, please download the free Report: Move your Business forward with Mobile Marketing .
